What we do
We bake birthday cakes for children in Derby, Nottingham & Loughborough who wouldn't otherwise receive a cake on their special day - perhaps due to poverty, homelessness, health issues or family breakdown. ( Sometimes we also bake cakes for other occasions when there is deemed to be a real need, for example we have baked a cake for a wake and fundraisers for children's charities).
All cakes are baked 100% by volunteers, who operate locally and independently in their own private kitchens.
Families are referred to us by partner organisations, such as food banks, hospitals, social workers, schools and refuges.
The cakes are a free confidential service. Our volunteer bakers pay for the ingredients, sometimes with the help of local sponsors.

But what difference does a cake make?

Everybody likes cake, but birthday cakes are something special. There are many reasons why a single cake can make a big difference:
- Having a cake made only for yourself makes you feel special and appreciated.
- You have something to share with your friends, so they come over for a chat, to see you and to socialise, so you don't feel so alone.
- It may be the only thing these children get for their birthday.
- We get to work within our communities and have become integral parts of the social infrastructure.
In other words, there are many ways to make a difference – we just choose to do it one cake at a time.
